About this deal

The book shows how these agendas fit into the much wider picture of what's really going on in the world, and--crucially--how the power lies with us to bring it to an end. David Olusoga’s latest edition of Black and British has been revised and rewritten especially for secondary school children, and explains and illustrates the much-overlooked history of Black peoples in Britain and beyond.

Each song is a jumping off point for deeper social, political and historical analysis, tracking key moments in Black history, and the emotional impact of both the songs and the artists who performed them. Throughout the millennia Turkey formed the core of several Empires–Persia, Rome, Byzantium–before becoming the center of the Ottoman Empire.

Nowhere is the reader patronised or dictated to, and this nuance will lead to refreshing and genuine discourse in KS4 books clubs, PSHE or English lessons. Jeffrey Boakye has created a truly unique and delightful book which he has paired with a matching playlist on Spotify meaning you can listen to the songs he details whilst reading about the context at the same time.

Very well put together with clear print which is easy to read (I struggle with very small print and large blocks of text but this is perfect. Meet Monsieur Benoit, who appeared suddenly in Paris with a scheme for telegraphing messages across the world (or, at least, across the room) by means of electricity and the telepathic power of snails, and actually raised the money to build this extraordinary machine.

This experience has been fantastic primarily for the children, the school and also for me (professionally). This book aims to expose and chart the shadowy world of the entertainment industry through the era's to the masses and does so with some stunning revelations using common sense and critical thinking.

Unfortunately we cannot offer a refund on custom prints unless they are faulty or we have made a mistake. The book, when accompanied with the Spotify playlist is a snippet in time, with the text providing the context and history of the period in which each track was released. Even if it’s not a familiar artist or favourite song, the combination of words and period music always seem to evoke technicolour flashes of that time. Given the short examples in this review, I hope that I have given the reader food for thought at the very least.A concise, reader-friendly illustrated survey of Western art and architecture from prehistory to the present day. Context is key, and the playlist from Musical Truth helps provide colour and atmosphere to this taut and cogent collection of social history essays. This accessible, lively and informative book is ideal for KS3 and KS4 aged pupils who want to explore modern British Black history through musical history. Bronnie is so lovely with the boys and we also felt that having a man enthusing about the books set a great example.

Not only that but there’s an opportunity for pupils to explain their own music as part of a connected and wider social narrative.on youth; it is today’s children who will inherit our mistakes but from reading and thinking about this book, they will have been expertly guided in putting these mistakes right.
